Fnatic Academy have won the 2016 edition of China TOP after defeating MVP Project 2-0 (16-12 on Mirage and 22-18 on Train).
Four teams, three Asian and one European, gathered in Shenzhen for this three-day event, featuring tournaments in several different games, including CS:GO, Hearthstone and Dota 2.
Fnatic Academy, one of the two late replacements, caused an upset in the semi-finals by edging past hometown favourites VG.CyberZen in a three-map thriller. In the other match, MVP Project beat FIVE on two maps, with Hyun-Pyo "XigN" Lee earning rave reviews for his performance.
Fnatic Academy surprise Asian opposition
The grand final began on Mirage, where MVP took an 8-7 lead on the Terrorist side. The second half was completely different, however, as fnatic Academy, fuelled by a great display from Niclas "PlesseN" Plessen, limited their opponents to just four rounds before taking the map, 16-12.
The next map, Train, was highly contested from the start, with the score remaining tied after 30 rounds. In overtime, Fnatic Academy took the reins of the game, locking down the map, 22-18, to secure the title and a hefty payout.
